PUTRAJAYA: Registration for the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 will begin on Nov 1 with the distribution of the RM500 cash aid expected to commence early next year.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said the public can register at the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), district offices, state development offices and online.
He said those who received the previous BR1M handout need not register again as they would get it automatically.
“It is for those who had missed out on the earlier one as well as for singles above 21 years old with a monthly income of RM2,000 and less and the unemployed.
“Those who register early can expect to receive the aid by early next year,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Ahmad Husni said those who had applied for the previous BR1M but were unsuccessful for various reasons could also register again.
“We will take in their applications but it will still be subjected to the same conditions.
“As for cash aid for the singles, it is for those who were born in 1992 and before,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in his Budget 2013 proposals, extended the aid under BR1M 2.0 with a cash handout of RM250 to single, unmarried individuals aged 21 and above, who earn not more than RM2,000 a month.
The Government estimated the number of those in the new category to be about 2.7 million people.
The first BR1M was handed out to about 4.2 million households who earned less than RM3,000 a month.
Ahmad Husni added that for the new category, the Government would cross-check the applicant's details with various other agencies including the Employees Provident Fund and IRB.
“While we believe most Malay-sians and will accept their self-declaration of their financial status, we will still cross check with other relevant agencies,” he said.
He said couples who received the previous BR1M aid but had separated should also register themselves.
“Both the men and women should register but they will be subjected to the RM3,000 and less monthly income condition.
“For those whose heads of family had died, their next-of-kin are strongly urged to update the status with the agencies handling the BR1M,” he said.
